What does "last seen" mean on WhatsApp, and what does it not tell you?
On WhatsApp, "last seen" is the most recent time a contact had the app open. "Online" means they have it open right now. Both come from the same presence signal: when someone opens WhatsApp they show as online, and when they close it, the moment they left becomes their new last seen.
The last seen label under a contact's name updates constantly, it is overwritten every time they reconnect, and WhatsApp does not keep a record of previous values. If you did not see it, it is gone. It also does not say how long they were online, or how many times that day.

What a last seen tracker cannot do

Can I see WhatsApp last seen if it is hidden?
- No. If a contact has hidden last seen or online status from you in WhatsApp, WhatsApp does not share it, and ChatWatch cannot show it. ChatWatch records only what your own account can see.
