Online checker

WhatsApp online checker: see when any contact is online

ChatWatch watches the online indicator WhatsApp already shows your account and records every time a contact comes online and goes offline. Instead of catching a green dot by chance, you get a complete timeline: when they were online, for how long, and how often.

How the WhatsApp online checker works

You link your own WhatsApp to ChatWatch the way WhatsApp Web links a device: enter your phone number and type the short code WhatsApp gives you, or scan a QR code. ChatWatch becomes a linked device on your account. From then on it listens for one thing only: the online and offline presence signal WhatsApp sends about the contacts you choose to track.

Every change is time-stamped and stored, so the online status you would normally have to sit and watch for becomes a searchable history. Nothing runs on the other person's phone, and there is nothing to install on yours: it all happens in the browser.

What the online checker shows you

That timeline is the same data the Online History and NightWatch views are built on. The online checker is the raw record; the other views read patterns out of it.

  • Every online and offline event, with the exact time, from the moment you start tracking.
  • How long each online session lasted and how many sessions there were in a day.
  • A scrollable timeline so you can jump to any hour of any day and see whether they were online.
  • Daily totals: how much time a contact spent online on WhatsApp, day by day.

Track WhatsApp online status by number

Add a contact by phone number, or pick one from your WhatsApp contacts list, and give it a name you will recognise. ChatWatch starts recording immediately. You can track several numbers at once and switch between them from your dashboard.

Because tracking is tied to the number, it keeps working whether or not you are chatting with that person, and whether or not their conversation is open on your phone.

What it does not do

ChatWatch never reads messages, calls, or media. Our connection to WhatsApp does not subscribe to message events and does not request chat history, so message content never reaches our servers. What you get is presence: online or offline, and when.

It also does not bypass anyone's privacy settings. If a contact has hidden their online status in WhatsApp, WhatsApp does not expose it to anyone, including ChatWatch. What ChatWatch adds is memory: it records what your account is allowed to see, around the clock, so you never have to be looking at the right moment.

Getting started takes a few minutes

  1. 01Log in with your WhatsApp number — no email or password. You can try it free right away.
  2. 02Link your WhatsApp: enter your number and type the short code WhatsApp gives you (or scan a QR code), the same as linking WhatsApp Web.
  3. 03Add the number you want to track. Your online history starts building from that moment.

Common questions about the online checker

Will the person know I am checking their online status?

ChatWatch does not notify anyone and nothing is installed on their phone. It records presence information that WhatsApp already makes visible to your account.

Can I check someone's WhatsApp online status by number only?

Yes. You add a phone number, and ChatWatch tracks the presence WhatsApp shows your account for that number. You do not need an open chat with them.

Does it work if they hide their online status?

No. If a contact has turned off online visibility in WhatsApp's privacy settings, WhatsApp does not share it with anyone, and ChatWatch cannot see it either.
